An official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said experts associated with the task force believe the state needs at least a two-week lockdown to break the chain of coronary infections. The Maharashtra government had announced a weekend lockdown from Monday morning to Friday night. But now the sanctions are going to be tighter than before.
What is the situation in Maharashtra?
In Maharashtra on Saturday, 55,411 new cases were reported, bringing the total number in the state to 33,43,951. The total death toll has reached 57,638 with 309 deaths in a single day. Currently 5,36,682 people are undergoing treatment. So 53,005 people have been given leave in one day. Since then a total of 27,48,153 people have recovered. The transition rate here is 82.18 percent. The death rate is 1.72 percent. The state is testing 2,19,977 samples in a day. A total of 2,18,51,235 people have been investigated so far.

After the meeting on Saturday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar told reporters that a lockdown was needed to break the chain of Corona virus. He said a task force meeting would be held on Sunday in which it was decided to impose a lockdown. After the meeting, Maharashtra government minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik said,Despite strict protocol, there has been an increase in cases of Covid 19. There may be more pressure on the health structure in the coming days.
